Disorders of body image after spinal cord injury

CONOMY JP
NEUROLOGY , 1973, vol. 23, p. 842-850
Doc n°: 92898
Localisation : Documentation IRR
Descripteurs : JI1 - SCHEMA CORPOREL - PSYCHOLOGIE HANDICAP, AE21 - ORIGINE TRAUMATIQUE

Included in the spinal injury group presented were 18 patients. Patients' ages ranged from 10 to 68 years, and the duration of spinal illness varied from seven days to 25 years. For comparison, a group of 10 patients with nontraumatic congenital or slowly progressive acquired myelopathies was assessed by the same means as the cord injury group. Patients with spinal cord trauma showed, almost without exception, some fragmentary disruption of body scheme. The intensity of the alteration of body image was striking and profound.
