Rehabilitation of elbow trauma
CHINCHALKAR SJ; SZEKERES M
HAND CLIN , 2004, vol. 20, n° 4, p. 363-374 Doc n°: 117586 Localisation : Documentation IRR Descripteurs : DD62 - EXPLORATION EXAMENS BILANS - AVANT-BRAS, DD54 - TRAUMATISMES - COUDE Rehabilitation following elbow trauma is a challenging proposition. The elbow is a notoriously unforgiving joint, with significant bony congruity and a capsule that thickens and tightens with trauma. Despite the inherent challenges that are faced when treating an individual with a traumatic elbow injury, success can be achieved if rehabilitation focuses on a few important concepts. These concepts include initial control of inflammation, initiation of early range of motion (ROM), and promotion of functional use of the upper extremity as bone and ligament stability permit. These goals can be accomplished through the use of modalities, exercise programs to increase ROM and strength, splinting, continuous passive motion devices, and muscle re-education.
