Ataxia and paraparesis following spinal stab knife lesion 49 years ago superficial siderosis of the CNS.
The superficial siderosis of the CNS is characterized by superficial iron depositions caused by chronic subarachnoidal bleeding. These depositions act toxically and typically result in the triade deafness, cerebellar ataxia and pyramidal signs. Superficial siderosis of the CNS is known only to occur after recurrent bleeding induced by tumors or vascular malformations. We present a case of superficial siderosis, diagnosed 49 years after a stab with a knife in the back during a robbery with injury of the epidural space.
