There are many ways to perform an electrodiagnostic study for the evaluation of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The purpose of this manuscript is to review studies of these different methods; provide a history of CTS; discuss patient history, anatomy, and physical examination findings; explore the advantages and disadvantages of the various electrodiagnostic techniques; and discuss the conservative and surgical treatment of CTS with an emphasis on the evaluation of electrodiagnostic techniques
