Inadequate low back care has now been clearly identified as perhaps the greatest single waste of health care resources in the United States. Low back care failure represents a particularly frustating and challenging entity. Statistics suggest that 25.000 to 50.000 FBSS cases occur each year. This is a public health problem that should be of the highest level of concern. Modern understanding and technical prowess allow us to study past therapeutic failures and thus gain the knowledge necessary to do better in the future. We sincerely hope that our colleagues will give careful consideration to the material presented here.
