Complementary nutrition in treating urinary incontinence

A brief discussion of old traditions and new perspectives is provided as a basis for subsequent discussion of the use of nutritional interventions. Changes associated with aging of the kidneys and bladder are reviewed. The importance of hydration is emphasized. Pharmacologic causes of urinary incontinence are discussed, followed by a discussion of nutritional deficiencies and systemic changes that may lead to or exacerbate the condition of incontinence. Food substances that can trigger urinary incontinence are presented with rationale for possible causes of urinary incontinence.
