Power spectral density of the surface myoelectric signal of the biceps brachii as a function of static load
GANDER RE; HUDGINS B
ELECTROMYOGR CLIN NEUROPHYSIOL , 1985, vol. 25, n° 7-8, p. 469-478 Doc n°: 25025 Localisation : Documentation IRR Descripteurs : AK2 - EMG , AB1 - ETUDES GENERALES - MUSCLES Significant, reproducible changes occur in the surface myoelectric power spectral density as a function of muscle force. The power spectrum shifted to higher frequencies as the muscle force increased through most of the contraction range. At high muscle force levels, no evidence was found that would indicate the occurrence of synchronous firing of motor units. Careful attention was paid to avoid local muscle fatigue during the experimental sessions. The observed increase in median frequency and the change in relative power in two frequency bands of the spectrum may be useful in developing amplitude-insensitive control signals for use in such applications as myoelectrically controlled prostheses.
