Driving for tetraplegics. Assessing the driving fitness of a wheelchair patient must represent an important aspect of the patient's rehabilitation programme. If all medical, financial and legal conditions are respected, even the maximally impaired patient, such as the quadriplegic, should manage to drive safely and comfortably. Material and methods: We performed a retrospective study on a population of 40 quadriplegic patients who sustained cervical spinal cord injury. All were allowed to drive their own equipped vehicle at the moment of the survey. Conclusion : This work provides information and advice regarding two specific questions: can neurological levels or driving skills be defined before taking the driving licence exam? Depending on these levels, what is the minimal equipment required ?
