Stroke is a common public health problem and is a leading cause of death all over the world. Cerebral stroke is the third cause of mortality in North America. In the United States, it is estimated that there are 780,000 strokes annually. Cerebral stroke causes a significant deterioration of the patient's functioning and a worsening of her/his quality of life. Disability caused by stroke is common problem in all countries. The main aim of rehabilitation is to regain independence and to improve the quality of life. This review article discusses the contemporary possibilities of diagnosis and treatment of stroke, outcome measures after treatment and rehabilitation, and provides an overview of principles and methods of rehabilitation post-stroke
