Neuromuscular disorders of the foot and ankle
BRECKENRIDGE CW; CALHOUN JH
CURR OPIN ORTHOP , 1995, vol. 6, n° III, p. 52-57 Doc n°: 71720 Localisation : Documentation IRR Descripteurs : DE85 - PATHOLOGIE - PIED The recent literature has suggested that neuromuscular disorders affecting the foot and ankle are more common than was believed previously. These disorders include tarsal tunnel syndrome and other entrapment neuropathies, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, interdigital neuromas, Charcot Marie-Tooth disease and adult equinovarus foot deformities. Controversy regarding treatment, specifically for tarsal tunnel syndrome and reflex sympathetic dystrophy, continues despite recent advances in diagnosis and treatment. Nerve dysfunction in the lower extremity in athletes caused by both overuse syndromes and trauma also has been recently emphasized. The following review discusses the relevant literature concerning etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of neuromuscular disorders affecting the foot and ankle.
