Nonambulatory children with cerebral palsy often have some degree of lower extremity spasticity. This can affect a child's trunk posture in a seated position by pulling the pelvic into a posterior tilt, which typically causes a kyphotic position of the spine. This study was designed to determine if ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) set at 90° of dorsiflexion and in subtalar neutral prevent the nonreflex component of spasticity from causing this poor trunk position. Three variables were measured from the tracings, the amount of posterior pelvic tilt, the amount of displacement of the apex of the kyphotic curvature, and the sitting angle.
