The Thornbury model for assessing the clinical efficacy of a diagnostic imaging procedure has been used in this review to determine what has been achieved and what remains to be learned. To accomplish the effective and efficient treatment of patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip, orthopaedic, radiologic, and pediatric organizations must collaborate in writing and revising standards of care and guidelines for treatment as our knowledge base grows.
